Petroleum Minister in Cyprus over importing gas

 

Petroleum Minister Sherif Ismail is in Cyprus mulling bilateral cooperation in field of the natural gas to take advantage of excavated natural gas fields in the Mediterranean, governmental source said, indicating attempts from private sector and international companies operating in Egypt to import gas from Cyprus, especially after the recent excavations.

The current visit for the minister to Cyprus will not not tackle demarcation between the two countries, the source said denying possibility for negotiations over the 2003 agreement to demarcate borders.

BG Egypt earlier declared negotiations with Cypriot companies to import gas in favor for its gas liquefaction factory in Egypt.

Khaled abdel Badie, head of Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (Egas), confirmed that Petroleum sector is committed to providing of energy needs to economic sectors.
