Petroleum min, United Energy Group discuss plans to boost production in Western Desert

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi held talks with Song Yu, CEO of United Energy Group (UEG), and Kamel al-Sawy, the company’s Regional President for Africa, to review the company’s oil and gas operations in Egypt’s Western Desert.

The meeting took place on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, on the sidelines of the Egypt International Energy Conference and Exhibition (EGYPS 2026), with senior ministry officials also in attendance.

The discussions focused on potential collaboration between the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and United Energy Group in renewable and green energy, particularly the use of solar energy solutions in operational processes, aimed at reducing diesel consumption and improving efficiency.

UEG executives praised Egypt’s investment climate and the measures taken to facilitate business and overcome operational challenges.

They reaffirmed their commitment to accelerating drilling activities to tap new reserves and boost production.
