Petrol on low supply

Shortages in 80-octane petrol continued for the second week to the extent that it has almost vanished in the Nile Delta governorates of Gharbiya, Damietta and Kafr al-Sheikh.

Meanwhile, the Petroleum Ministry on Monday decided to provide Greater Cairo with 100,000 liters of the fuel daily, and reduce the shortage in the governorates to 20 percent.

Gas stations owners said armed thugs attack them to take the fuel and sell it on the black market.

Taxi drivers have raised fares, as they were forced to buy the more expensive 92-octane petrol.

In Minya, the strategic reserve of the fuel went down from 700,000 liters to 350,000 liters.

Officials expect additional shortages during the Eid vacation when travel between governorates increases. They also expect a shortage in butane gas cylinders.
