The Presidential Elections Commission’s General Secretariat was thrown into a state of confusion on Tuesday evening due to the small number of judges supervising the elections, said a source connected to the distribution of judges over the voting districts in the presidential elections.
The source told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the secretariat is considering the annexation of a number of districts with low voter numbers to nearby districts. The source said the elections commission may be forced to redistribute voters over the electoral districts, despite having already informed voters of what district they should vote in on its website, over its 140 directory service via telephone and via text messaging.
Presidential Elections Commission Secretary General Hatem Bagato had said the commission had distributed voters over 13,099 districts.
An official judicial source told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the number of judges supervising the elections will not exceed 14,500 judges and that they will be assisted by 65,000 Administrative Control Authority employees.
The source went on to say that the commission will try to assign the judges to districts near their place of residence. The source added that a meeting will be held with members of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces along with representatives from the Interior Ministry to discuss security preparations for the elections.
According to the database of voters, 51,111,794 people are entitled to vote in the presidential election, including 586,801 voters abroad and 50,524,993 in Egypt.
