Head of Al-Hayah Party, Michael Mounir, who had filed lawsuit a demanding the suppression of the legislation preventing dual-citizenship candidates from running for parliament, said he had confidence in the Egyptian judiciary, “which got us used to historic verdicts that guarantee respect for the Constitution and the principles of equality and justice.”
“It’s ironic that the verdict was issued while I was in Europe to take part in a session of the European parliament,” he added.
He also called on the president to dismiss the Transitional Justice Minister Ibrahim al-Heneidy, saying he prevented Egyptians with dual nationality from running in parliamentary elections.
The verdict was issued on Saturday by the Supreme Constitutional Court
