The Strong Egypt Party has condemned the killing of a Muslim Brotherhood supporter and a leftist activist in protests dispersed by security over the past two days as Egypt marks the fourth anniversary of the 2011 uprising.
Ahmed Imam, spokesperson of the party, condemned the killing of Sondos Abu Bakr,17, during clashes between Muslim Brotherhood backers and security on Friday, as well as the shooting of socialist activist Shaimaa al-Sabbagh during a small-scale march in Downtown Cairo on Saturday that was meant to lay wreaths on a revolution memorial in Tahrir Square.
Imam said the Interior Ministry caused the death of the pair despite their peacefulness. “The current regime proves every day that it only understands and adopts killing and harassment,” adding that the current government “has no space for any opponent,” and that “the bloods of both martyrs will remain as a curse for those who shed it.”
The party was founded and is led by the 2012 presidential candidate and dissident Muslim Brotherhood leader Abdel Moneim Abouel Fotouh.
