The Supreme Constitutional Court referred three appeals filed against President Mohamed Morsy’s decision to reinstate Parliament to the State Commissioners Authority on Sunday.
Three lawyers had filed challenges at the Administrative Court demanding the suspension of Morsy’s decision to reinstate the dissolved People’s Assembly on 8 July. They had also called for the implementation of the Court’s 14 June ruling to dissolve the Parliament, due to the unconstitutionality of some articles of the parliamentary elections law.
The Supreme Constitutional Court also deemed the law unconstitutional, as it allows party candidates to compete for seats allocated for independents.
The lawyers who filed challenges said that Morsy’s decision was invalid and that he didn’t have the right to issue such decision, arguing that the Supreme Constitutional Court’s decisions are final and should not be challenged.
High security was seen around the court while the session was taking place.
