Parliament approved on Tuesday the lifting of parliamentary immunity on MP Haitham al-Hariri ahead of his appearance before an Alexandria court regarding clashes that occurred in the coastal city under the rule of toppled President Mohamed Morsi between his supporters and opponents.
Hariri said he requested the lift of his parliamentary immunity so that he can appear before the court in the case.
Two hundred and fifty MPs approved lifting Hariri's immunity, 53 rejected the request and one abstained from voting.
Tamarod campaign members distributed on June 12, 2013, campaign forms which called for Morsi's resignation, Hariri said in a statement Wednesday.
Clashes occurred between supporters and opponents using birdshot and investigations stated that Morsi supporters initiated the assault against Tamarod members, according to Hariri.
One of Morsi's supporters accused Hariri of inciting Tamarod members to assault him, said Hariri, denying that he was present during the clashes.
MP Khaled Abdel Aziz accused the former top prosecutor of fabricating charges against the Muslim Brotherhood's opponents. Abdel Aziz approved lifting Hariri's immunity so he can prove his innocence.
