Egypt’s House of Representatives approved a presidential decree that was adopted five days ago to extend the state of emergency and partial curfew in Sinai by three months on Sunday.
The new extension will begin on January 27.
As part of the emergency, curfews are imposed in some regions in the restive peninsula, mostly located in North Sinai and along the borders with Israel and the Gaza Strip.
The emergency was first imposed in October 2014, following a deadly attack on an army checkpoint that left 33 soldiers dead. The emergency has been extended several times since then.
Most of the attacks on police and the army in Sinai since 2013 have been claimed by an Islamic State-linked group, the Sinai Province.
The parliament's approval came as the chamber began to revise and vote on at least 380 laws issued by the Presidency before its election.
