Paris Saint-Germain has imposed a penalty on its Argentine star, Lionel Messi, for visiting Saudi Arabia without the permission of the French club.
The Spanish radio station RMC Sports reported that Paris Saint-Germain decided to suspend Messi for two weeks.
Messi and his family are currently visiting Riyadh.
“Welcome Messi to Diriyah, the land of traditions, heritage and history. Leo Messi, his wife Antonella and his sons Mateo and Ciro had an enjoyable tour where they learned about the history of Saudi and met its generous and hospitable people in At-Turaif,” Saudi Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb tweeted.
The Argentine world champion and current Paris Saint-Germain player encouraged his followers to visit Saudi Arabia in a post on Instagram.
“Who thought Saudi has so much green? I love to explore its unexpected wonders whenever I can. #visitsaudi,” Messi wrote.
Messi, 35, the Saudi tourism ambassador, previously visited the Kingdom in May 2022, and during his visit he explored the treasures of the Red Sea, the Jeddah Season and its ancient history.
He also came to Riyadh, accompanied by the Parisian Club delegation, in January. The team had played the “Riyadh Season Cup” match with the stars of Al-Hilal and Al-Nasr clubs.
