CAIRO, Nov 29 (MENA) – The Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM) announced that it had unanimously decided to grant President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi the “Olive Tree of Peace” award in recognition of his pivotal role in promoting peace.
“The PA-UfM, represented by its President, heads of parliaments, vice-presidents, and members participating in the Assembly’s Forum and the Summit of Heads of Parliaments in Cairo on the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the Barcelona Declaration, is honored to express the highest levels of appreciation and respect in recognition of your courageous leadership and your decisive role in stopping the war on the Gaza Strip and opening a window of hope for launching a serious path toward a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace,” says a telegram the PA-UfM agreed Saturday to send to President Sisi at the conclusion of its meetings hosted by the House of Representatives over the past two days.
The PA-UfM commended President Sisi for hosting of the historic Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit, and the President’s successful mediation efforts to stop the war in Gaza.
“You affirmed that true courage lies in making peace, and that responsible leadership is what transforms moments of war into an opportunity to build a safer and more just future for all,” the telegram reads.
“You have revived hope for peace and preserved the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people,” the telegram added, describing President Sisi’s historic stance against the displacement of Palestinians as “an impregnable dam against which attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause were shattered.”
“The Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit was a historic milestone for the Middle East and a momentous occasion of hope and global unity, a spirit that everyone must work together to preserve and ensure its promises are fulfilled,” the PA-UfM said.
“In recognition and appreciation of your achievements, and your unwavering commitment to peace, stability, and cooperation, the PA-UfM, with the unanimous consensus of all its members, who represent 43 European, Arab, and Mediterranean countries, is honored to grant Your Excellency the ‘Olive Tree of Peace’ Award in recognition of this role and commitment,” the telegram reads.
The PA-UfM concluded by affirming its readiness to strengthen cooperation with President Sisi to advance whatever efforts aimed at promoting security, stability, and prosperity in the region. (MENA)
