In a heartwarming tribute, the Oxford University celebrated Egyptian graduate Heba Rashid for her innovative fundraising campaign, ‘The Most Expensive Mug in Egypt’.
The university praised Rashid for turning a simple coffee mug into a powerful symbol of hope and change.
The inspiring founder of the charitable Mersal Foundation, Rashid, sparked a movement with a simple coffee mug, transforming a personal memento into a catalyst for a significant humanitarian cause.
While contemplating the situation in Gaza, she had a profound realization – her beloved Oxford University mug could become a powerful emblem of solidarity.
She decided to auction it off in a charity auction, transforming this mug which carries her memories and dreams, into a tool for raising funds and equipping operating rooms to save lives in Gaza.
Rashid wrote on her personal account, “I couldn’t find anything more valuable than the mug that holds my memories at Oxford University, the place where I realized my dreams. I decided to invest it in serving the people of Gaza, to become a symbol of goodness and giving.”
The auction kicked off with a starting bid of LE200,000. Yet it quickly exceeded all expectations, reaching a staggering four million Egyptian pounds.
The overwhelming generosity of donors, inspired by the cause, drove the bids higher and higher with each passing minute.
