The Health and Population Ministry announced Monday that 68,851 kg of food and 5,783 liters of juices were destroyed in January 2016 for violating food safety standards and being unfit for human consumption.
Health Ministry Spokesman Khaled Mogahed said the ministry inspected 14,738 food outlets in different governorates. He added 1,342 outlets have been shutdown for being either unlicensed or for violating food safety standards.
According to Mogahed, 8,364 complaints were filed regarding food and beverages that violated food safety standards.
