Over 5,000 Egyptians stuck in Ukraine amid war

The deputy head of the Egyptian community in Ukraine, Assem Aboul-Dahab said that up to 5,400 Egyptian nations remain in Ukraine amid the crisis, but assured the current situation is calm.

During a telephone interview with the privately-owned satellite channel ETC, on Monday evening, Aboul-Dahab confirmed that there is continuous communication with all members of the community in light of these difficult conditions.

He also explained that there are eight crossings for Romania or Poland to get out of Ukraine.

A brutal street war resulted in the injury of an Egyptian Mohamed Saad Ragab, who was immediately admitted to a hospital for first aid and treatment, after he was shot by one of the Russian warplanes in Kharkiv.

Aboul-Dahab assured that he was discharged from intensive care and is now in stable condition.

The Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs and Egyptians Abroad Salah Eddin al-Sadek said on Sunday that Ragab was visiting Ukraine to be with his wife before she gave birth.

As the conflict broke out he had to leave the safe areas and was spotted by a helicopter and hit by two bullets in the back.

Russian President Vladimir Putin launched on Thursday morning a special military operation in Donbass, southeastern Ukraine, and he announced in a speech addressed to the Russian people that the operation aims to protect Donbass.

Putin stressed that Russia will strive to disarm and prevent nationalism in Ukraine, as well as bring to justice those who have committed many bloody crimes against civilians, including citizens of the Russian Federation.

The Egyptian Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expats Nabila Makram assured Saturday that there are no missing or injured Egyptian citizens in Ukraine. Makram said that there are more than 6,000 Egyptian citizens in Ukraine, including 3,000 students who are divided across 21 cities in Ukraine.
