Our Wedding Carnival: a fashion runway to spotlight Egyptian creation

The 2014 Our Wedding Carnival lived up to its reputation as one of the biggest bridal events in Egypt, as hundreds of attendees trickled into Semiramis Intercontinental hotel this past summer to enjoy the latest local creations and go beyond the usual wedding shopping experience.

Building on last year’s success, the two-day event stepped up to a higher level of fashion styles and services of wedding-related business.

More than 90 exhibitors came together under one roof, providing a perfect opportunity to see the latest bridal fashion and hairstyles, make-up ideas, wedding rings, decorations and cards, photography, disc jockeys, furniture and honeymoon packages.

Hollywood was the theme of the event. The huge exhibition was divided into a number of sections; each was named after a well-known Hollywood movie whose plot represents the section’s wares.

For example, the ‘wedding diamond ring’ section was called ‘The Proposal’, a romantic comedy movie with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds, while the entrance was marked with a full-length banner showing the original poster of the motion picture. The same went for each section lending a touch of creative, symbolic characterization to the place.

On the first night, spectators gathered to watch models taking to the runway in the latest designs created by fashion designer Magda Dagher, who decided to follow in the footsteps of her late brother and famous fashion designer Mohamed Dagher.

Black, golden and red were the dominant colors of the collection. Dagher’s distinguished touch was obviously portrayed through the heavy embroidery sewed on different types of fabrics.

However, there were two repeated patterns among the collection. The first design was an ankle length dress, tightly fitting until reaching the knees and then flaring out to the hemline, while the other one was a tight, short dress with a detachable silk or tulle train.

The second day was jam-packed with two fashion shows and unique hairstyle demonstration.

Unlike Dagher’s, promising fashion designer Deana Shaaban’s signature fashion style is characterized by soft, classic dresses she designs.

The 30-year-old fashion designer, who recently moved from London to Egypt willing to put her stamp on the fashion industry, presented a handful of cocktail dresses showing color combination with white, and light green or black.

Most of the wedding dresses had strapless style with layers of tulle or organza, flare dramatically from the waistline to the floor, while some gowns were ornamented with delicate lace patterns, a single dress featured a long train.

Renowned Lebanese hairstyle artist Kriss sent his models down the runway in fashionable, exotic look.

Six attractive hair buns were introduced during the show, accessorized with small white roses, colorful long feathers or buttons. Kriss did a live hair demo, which undoubtedly made a statement among other buns.

The closing ceremony kicked off with Safir Atelier presenting a huge collection of impressive, full-length gowns that won the admiration of almost all the attendees.

The new collection featured vivid colors such as aquamarine blue, red, golden, pink, silver, and purple which gave the dresses a bright and upbeat vibe.
