Workers of the Omar Effendi department store chain on Wednesday sent Prime Minister Essam Sharaf a request to implement a court order annulling the sale of the state-owned company to a Saudi investor. The court order was issued on 7 May.
The workers threatened to sue Sharaf if he did not implement the order within eight days.
“Article 132 of the Penal Code stipulates the imprisonment of government officials who do not implement court orders,” said the workers’ lawyer Wael Hamdy.
Saudi investor Gamil al-Qanbit earlier challenged the court order, but his challenge was unsuccessful.
