CAIRO, Oct 9 (MENA) – Oman’s Ambassador in Cairo and Permanent Representative to the Arab League Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Rahbi Thursday lauded Egypt’s leadership in shaping the region’s future, emphasizing its role as a platform for peace and reason. He noted that Sharm El-Sheikh hosted crucial negotiations that led to a Gaza Strip ceasefire agreement.
Al-Rahbi highlighted President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s call for an immediate ceasefire and his discussions with US President Donald Trump as pivotal in achieving this historic deal, potentially paving the way for a visit by President Trump to Egypt to advance peace efforts.
Oman welcomed the ceasefire agreement, including the terms for its initial implementation, prisoner release, and humanitarian aid delivery.
He stressed the need for continued regional and international efforts to solidify the ceasefire and work towards a comprehensive political solution guaranteeing Palestinian rights and regional stability. He affirmed the shared conviction of Oman and Egypt in the feasibility and importance of peace, noting ongoing consultations between Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and President Sisi on core Arab issues, particularly the Palestinian issue and Gaza situation.
He emphasized the Arab region’s urgent need for stability and development, highlighting the aspirations of Arab youth.
He urged Palestinians to pursue reconciliation and unity to build their independent state, calling for leveraging the global momentum created by European countries’ recognition of Palestine.
He cautioned that Israel’s violations of international law would only breed further instability, even within Israel, reiterating that peace is the only viable option. (MENA)
