Official survey: Egyptians don’t feel secure in their homeland

An official survey revealed that most Egyptians do not feel secure in their homeland due to an increasing crime, corruption, abuse of power, monopoly of capital and disrespect for the law.

The survey, which was conducted by the National Council for Social and Criminal Research on a sample of 100 respondents, showed that 90 percent did not feel secure due to increased crime and decreased security presence on the street. They lamented that only the rich can afford to employ private security agencies to protect their property.

The survey also showed that 62 percent believed drug addiction was behind the increasing crime, violence and social decadence.

Forty-nine percent believed social injustice, unequal distribution of wealth, and poverty caused their insecurity, while another 48 percent believed it was caused by corruption, abuse of power, monopoly of capital and disrespect for the law.
