Official report says Hurghada’s drinking water contaminated, has fecal remains

 

An official environmental report issued by the Analysis and Laboratories Department, at the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) branch in the Red Sea area said

that drinking water in Hurghada city is polluted by the waste water

.

 

Results of the analyzed samples of the drinking water did not conform the Health Ministry’s hygienic specifications of water.

The technical report showed presence of fecal coliform by 1.9 percent, which is unallowed. Analysis also showed that the water had a deep yellow substance of bad odor by 34 units, however, the allowed limit is only one unit.

Officials in charge of the EEAA branch in the Red Sea governorate submitted a copy of the report to Hurghada prosecution to conduct investigations. Another copy was sent to Environment Ministry.

 

Environment Minister Khaled Fahmy earlier assigned the EEAA’s department to swiftly analyze the water and take samples from several areas in the governorate after citizens complained about mixing between the drinking and waste water.
