Official: Child forced to kiss teacher’s foot in Bahrain not Egyptian

The Egyptian Embassy in Manama did not intervene after an incident in which a Bahraini teacher forced a 4-year-old child to kiss her foot, spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry Amr Rushdie has said, "because the child does not have Egyptian nationality."

"Although the father of the child and his family are of Egyptian origin, they all were born in Bahrain, live there and have Bahraini, not Egyptian, nationality, so the intervention of the Egyptian embassy would have meant an interference in Bahraini internal affairs, especially as the child's family resorted to the Bahraini Ministry of Education and did not file a complaint at the Egyptian embassy," Rushdie told Al-Masry Al-Youm

Rushdie said the response of the Bahraini authorities "came from the highest levels and they dealt with the incident with the utmost firmness once they heard of it."

Rushdie called on the media to check their facts before publishing news related to Egyptian expatriates out of respect to the public who have right to know the truth.
