US President Barack Obama said on Sunday that former President Mohamed Morsy proved inability to rule across the whole political spectrum in Egypt, while the transitional government that replaced him responded to the desire of millions of Egyptians who believed that the revolution has gone in the wrong direction.
Obama’s remarks came in response to a message from the Muslim Brotherhood that was delivered by the Egyptian-American Relations Center that allegedly supports the Brotherhood in Washington, about concerns that the United States might support President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi after his victory in the presidential election.
He also said that the United States chose to support the peaceful change in Tunisia and Egypt in 2011, knowing that a democratic transition is a difficult process that would eventually lead societies to stability and prosperity.
He added that Egypt's president pledged to respect the fundamental freedoms of the Egyptians and rule across the whole political spectrum, which was welcomed by the United States who deliberately avoided to side with any certain group in Egypt and encouraged any government that reflected the will of the Egyptian people and pursued a real democracy.
He said that the United States will maintain constructive relationships with the new Egyptian government that supports fundamental interests, such as combating terrorism and maintaining the peace treaty with Israel, although it did not achieve progress with regard to investment.
“Our full support is contingent upon the progress that Egypt will achieve.
