Condemning the violence that erupted in Egypt on Wednesday, US President Barack Obama said on Thursday that the US had canceled next month’s planned joint military exercise with Egypt.
“The Egyptian people deserve better than what we’ve seen,” Obama said from his vacation retreat on Martha’s Vineyard.
He warned of additional steps to be taken, without making any reference to the US$1.5 billion in annual aid the US gives Egypt.
“America wants to be a partner in the Egyptian people’s pursuit of a better future,” he added.
