Nubians continued to protest before the governor’s office in the Upper Egyptian city of Aswan on Monday for the second day in a row, demanding that the authorities resettle them on their ancestral lands around Lake Nasser, property they were forced to evacuate when the High Dam was built in the 1960s.
The protesters blocked the Corniche and the road leading to the airport, causing traffic jams. They also pelted the governor’s office with stones.
Sources said that the armed forces have intensified their presence around the dam to prevent protesters from heading there.
