National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) CEO Hisham al-Alayli has ordered the creation of a plan to improve what he called the “poor” Internet and mobile phone services. The plan should be ready before June 2015.
The statement came during a meeting with the CEOs of Telecom Egypt, Mobinil, Vodafone and Etisalat on Tuesday. “We will will follow up on the plan and remove any obstacles that prevnt its implementation,” al-Alayli said.
“The quality of the services improved in the fourth quarter of last year, but this is not enough,” he said, asking the service providers to make this a top priority.
He said NTRA is currently updating its devices measuring the quality of the mobile phone service, so as to be able to provide data from the road network and inside buildings. “We will be able to measure the quality of service for long-duration calls,” he said, adding that the results will be reported on a monthly basis.
