Nour Party denies fielding Brotherhood members in elections

The Nour Party accused civil political parties of spreading rumors in the media that it is fielding members of the Muslim Brotherhood in the next parliamentary election, requesting they provide evidence to the accusations.

The party said in a statement that the rumors aim to tarnish its image before the elections, calling on other political parties to comply with fair competition and not launch false accusations.

The statement stressed that there are no members of the Brotherhood within the Nour Party, and that the Muslim Brotherhood itself said it would not run for parliament.

Salah Abdel Maaboud, member of the party’s political bureau, added that other parties have no specific program. “Their members change affiliation to other parties easily,” he said.

In a related development, Nour Party Assistant Secretary General Shaaban Abdel Alim asked the candidates to bear the cost of their campaigns. “We are open for donations because we have no funds,” he said, denying that the party received any funding from abroad to spend on election campaigns.

The statement also said that the party is meeting on Saturday to discuss preparations for elections.  There is also a potential to form coalitions because of the difficulty in running on an individual basis, given the large number of electoral constituencies, added the statement.
