North Sudan does not consider commercial ties with Egypt a viable economic alternative to the resources it lost when the south seceeded, said North Sudan’s Finance Minister Ali Mahmoud.
Mahmoud said the government does not need to resort to Egypt or any other neighboring country to solve its problems, emphasizing that the problems it faces with South Sudan relate to sovereign rights.
Mahmoud also said North Sudan will not ally itself with other countries against South Sudan.
He added that North Sudan’s relations with Egypt, Libya, and Chad will remain the same.
He pointed out that North Sudan adapted the state budget as well as the police, army, and labor force in order to cope with the consequences of separation.
South Sudan’s government announced its official independence earlier this week in accordance with a public referendum carried out early this year.
