North Korea condemns US strikes on Iran, citing sovereignty violations

North Korea on Monday vehemently condemned US military strikes on nuclear sites in Iran, calling them serious violations of national sovereignty and international law.

The North Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a release carried by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) that North Korea, “Strongly condemns the US attack on Iran, which gravely violates the United Nations Charter concerning respect for sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs, as well as other rules of international law, and constitutes an infringement upon the security interests and territorial integrity of a sovereign state.”

The ministry described the current situation in the Middle East as an “inevitable consequence of Israel’s reckless audacity,” accusing both Israel and the United States of escalating tensions in the region, according to Yonhap news agency.

It further added that the international community should “unanimously raise its voice” against the warmongering of the US and Israel.

Iran has vowed to retaliate for the recent American strikes which targeted three Iranian nuclear sites, including the underground Fordow uranium enrichment facility.

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on Sunday claimed that the overnight American strikes on Iranian sites “destroyed” Tehran’s nuclear program.

During a Pentagon press conference, Hegseth affirmed, “We have destroyed the Iranian nuclear program,” adding that the operation “did not target Iranian forces or the Iranian people.”
