Nine Egyptians dead during Umra due to hotel fire

Consul General Adel al-Alfy in Jeddah said the total number of deaths in a Medina hotel fire rose to 14, including nine Egyptians, an Algerian, a Briton and three unidentified bodies.

The names of the deceased are: Abdel Rahman Mahmoud Ali Mohamed, Tasneem Mahmoud Ali Mohamed, Tahera Awad, Tawhida Abed Ahmed, Ahmed Mohamed Ali, Eman Ismail, Hoda Ahmed, Mohammed Ali and Mariam Ahmed Mohamed Ali.

Alfy noted in remarks to the Middle East News Agency that all the injured have fully recovered and are no longer being hospitalized. He said that all deaths and injuries were caused from inhaling fumes due to the intensity of the fire, which had broken out due to a short circuit, according to the preliminary investigations by Saudi authorities.

The eight dead will be burried in Medina, he said. He added that the consulate will take the necessary measures to maintain the legal rights of the dead and injured in the incident. He expressed his condolences to the families of all the victims.
