A human rights organization has reported an assault by a voter against presidential candidate Abdel Fattah al-Sisi while casting his ballot at the 2014 presidential elections of which he is widely seen as the almost-certain winner.
In a statement on Monday, Ibn Khaldun Center for Development Studies said its observers had detected an attempted assault on Sisi by a voter while he was casting his ballot at al-Khulafa al-Rashidin School in Heliopolis, east of Cairo. The center said the man was confronted by Sisi’s bodyguards.
No confirmation has yet been made from security authorities.
It also cited a violation by Sisi’s contender, Hamdeen Sabbahi. “Sabbahi made statements to a number of TV reporters, which is considered a violation,” the organization said.
It also pointed that the Salafi-oriented Nour Party is campaigning for Sisi at Assiut, Suez and Fayoum.
The organization said its observers in al-Zohour School in Port Said were told that observation is allowed only for international organizations.
It also reported delays in opening a number of stations in Alexandria, Damietta and Sharqiya.
