An NGO in Minya, Upper Egypt, has announced that it is developing a solar-powered water pump for house and farming purposes.
Better Life Association said its portable, cheap and eco-friendly device is the first of its kind in Egypt.
The idea was introduced in 2011, when Egypt started to suffer chronic fuel shortages, according to the organization's chief executive, Maher Beshry. He said the shortage affected farmers and damaged crops, prompting the association to seek an eco-friendly, economical means of irrigating at least 1,100 square meters.
