New natural gas export prices to Jordan to be announced end September

Petroleum Minister Abdallah Ghorab has said that he sent a report to the cabinet containing the results of the negotiations with Jordan on amending the prices of its natural gas imports from Egypt, which he said were satisfactory to both sides.

“We will announce the revised prices at the end of September. They are no military secrets,” he said, adding that prices of other contracts, including that with Israel, would also be revised. “There shall be no fixed price for exporting our gas from now on.”

A ministry official said the new prices vary between US$5 and US$7 per million thermal units, which is in accordance with global prices.

For his part, Petroleum Ministry Undersecretary Tarek al-Hadidy explained that the new prices would be applied retrospectively. “The fact that Jordan has accepted the revised prices strengthens our position in negotiating the other contracts,” he said.
