New governors to be sworn in Tuesday

Governors will take the oath of office on Tuesday in the presence of interim leader Adli Mansour. Media Advisor Ahmed al-Meslemany said 27 governors, including seven who had been appointed by Morsy, as well as 11 deputy governors, will be sworn in.

Mansour will hold his first meeting with the governors after they take the oath. His deputies and advisors, as well as the ministers of electricity, local development, food supply, population, petroleum, health and education will be in attendance.

Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawy told Al-Masry Al-Youm on Monday that the reshuffle will include the appointing of several deputy governors. Police and army officials will be appointed as governors, he said, adding that a limited number of governors appointed under Morsy will remain in their posts.

Egypt has not seen a governor re-shuffle since Mohamed Morsy announced 17 new appointments in mid-June.

That announcement, which saw seven Islamist officials take local government posts, ignited protests across the country in the run-up to the 30 June demonstrations which ultimately precipitated Morsy's downfall.
