New fleet of river buses, plan to open 28 stations from Al-Qanater to Helwan

Ater Hanoura, head of the Finance Ministry’s Private Sector Partnership Department, said river bus stops would be increased from 16 to 28 stations.

He also said there would be more buses to the current 30 buses, of which only 10 operate with a limited speed, high fuel consumption and irregular schedules, serving as little as 1.8 million passengers a year.

He added that the ministry would start right after the Eid al-Adha vacation to ask the investment companies that are interested in the project to submit their financial and technical offers.

He said six out of 19 offers from international technical consultants were shortlisted to choose from.

“The first phase will cover the area from Al-Qanater in the north to Helwan in the south,” he said. “This will increase the capacity to 9 million passengers annually.”
