The new Arab League secretary general, Nabil al-Araby, left Cairo on Monday for a trip to Saudi Arabia.
This is Araby's first external visit since he replaced Amr Moussa as secretary general on 3 July.
Araby will hold talks with King Abdullah bin Abul Aziz and Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal in Jeddah, according to state news agency MENA.
The talks will handle the latest developments in the Arab region with a focus on the Israeli-Palestinian issue, the news agency said.
It said the meeting will tackle possible Arab efforts to seek UN recognition for the Palestinian state, as well as discussing the situations in Syria, Lebanon, Yemen and Sudan.
Earlier, Syrians in Cairo had protested in front of the Arab League's headquarters, calling on Araby to break with the stance adopted by his predecessor concerning Syria's unrest.
Syria has seen ongoing anti-regime protests since March, demanding that President Bashar al-Assad step down. A violent crackdown by the Syrian army and police force has lead to the death and injury of hundreds, according to rights groups' reports.
