New administrative capital project to be implemented over 40 years

The new administrative capital is part of a National Plan for Strategic Urban Development, which will be implemented over 40 years, said Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Mostafa Madbouli.

He pointed out that the first phase of the project includes the development of 105 square kilometers.

The rest of the area (around 600 km2) will be developed, step by step, over a period of 40 years, the minister said.

During a meeting with chief editors of a number of newspapers, the minister added that the first stage of the National Plan has already been started, through a number of national projects, including the Suez Canal, the Golden Triangle, and the road network.

He stressed that social justice is the primary goal of development projects.

The new administrative capital will not be replacing the current capital, as the proposed location lies within the administrative and geographical boundaries of Cairo.

The project creates a new administrative center for finance and business, in order to revive the capital's cultural and tourist character.
