Nazif detained for 15 days pending profiteering investigations

The imprisonment of former Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif was extended by 15 days pending profiteering investigations. Safwat Torrah, head of the investigations department at the Illicit Gains Authority (IGA), ordered the extension.

The IGA received information from the surveillance authority and public funds investigations that Nazif had illegally acquired wealth by abusing the powers of his office.

Investigations revealed that Nazif abused his position as former telecommunications minister and later as prime minister, and that his earnings did not match his wealth.

It also revealed that much of his wealth was never revealed in financial disclosures.
