About 2000 citizens participated in a march through the streets of Imbaba on Monday in protest against the sectarian violence that occurred in the neighborhood on Saturday. Twelve were killed and 232 were injured in the clashes.

A number of political forces had called for the march, which was attended by members of the 6th of April Youth Movement, the National Association for Change and supporters of presidential candidate Mohamed ElBaradei.

The march ended before the Virgin Mary Church, which was gutted by fire during the clashes.

The march was joined by hundreds of residents of Imbaba, who chanted slogans stating that Muslims and Christians are as one.
