Representatives from the National Association for Change (NAC), founded by potential presidential contender Mohamed ElBaradei, will today visit the Wafd Party headquarters to congratulate el–Sayyed el–Badawy on his election as the party’s president on 28 May.
No agenda has been set for the meeting and discussions are likely to focus on general positions of the Wafd party and the NAC on various issues, said Hassan Nafaa, general coordinator for the NAC.
Nafaa described the relationship between the NAC and the Wafd Party as strong, and said that Mahmoud Abaza, the former president of the Wafd Party, had expressed his intention to coordinate the efforts of the two sides.
Commenting on el–Sayyed el–Badawy’s refusal to allow his party to join with any other political movements, Nafaa mentioned that the NAC has several political parties as members, such as the Democratic Front, the Ghad Party and the Free Constitutional Party.
“We will find a suitable formula for the Wafd Party to join the NAC,” Nafaa said. “Perhaps the main obstacle to this is the fact that Ayman Nour, founder of the Ghad Party, is a member of the NAC, which is not acceptable to the leaders of the Wafd Party.”
