The NAC’s Legal Committee has prepared a draft law on parliamentary elections to be discussed during the NAC Secretariat meeting slated for Thursday, said General Coordinator of the National Assembly for Change (NAC) Abdul Jalil Mustafa on Wednesday.
Muslim Brotherhood NAC representative Ahmed Abu Baraka said the draft law states that the upcoming parliamentary elections should be held according to the mandatory list-based candidacy system, meaning that no political party will be allowed to submit an incomplete list and that the country will be divided into 75 constituencies.
Abu Baraka went on to say, “The draft law excludes police from accepting requests or appeals and allows voting to take place using national identity cards.”
He added that the law allowing the president to appoint 10 members to parliament would be removed, and pointed out that the NAC will discuss the draft law on Wednesday in preparation for presentation to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.
