Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood has attacked the Salafi-led Nour Party, after the former ally's leadership issued a statement supporting the armed forces and Defense Minister General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
The Brotherhood accused Nour officials of being agents of presidential candidate Ahmed Shafiq and the disbanded Mubarak-era state security apparatus.
On Wednesday, Borhamy issued a statement supporting the armed forces and Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi as well as the dismissal of President Mohamed Morsy.
“Islamist protests demanding Sisi’s resignation are different from demonstrations that called for Morsy’s resignation – in numbers and in method," he said. "Millions of people took to streets and squares against Morsy, whereas thousands of people oppose Sisi. We should stay apart from claims and rumors that increase the number of protesters against Sisi.”
Brotherhood officials have called Borhamy's comments a "moral degradation."
The Brotherhood’s spokesperson in London, Hani al-Deeb said: "Leaders of the Nour Party are agents of the state security and the lieutenant general [Shafiq]. Everyone knows about their previous meetings."
In his interview with Al Jazeera on Thursday, Deeb claimed: "The grass-roots of the Salafi party supported Morsy’s protests and took to the streets. Only agents of the state security services who work on behalf of the National Democratic Party remain.”
“All leaders of the party ignored the blood and victims who were killed in Rabaa al-Adaweya and Nahda," he added. "They authorized the killers, which made them partners in all the bloodshed – since 3 July until now."
However, Freedom and Justice Party figure Mohamed al-Masry said: “We were expecting the Nour Party to condemn the murder, besieging of mosques and burning."
"Its stance is shameful. Its leaders are not of Islam morals or even humanity," he claimed.
“What happens in Egypt has gone beyond political conflict and reached the violation of principles of fundamental humanity."
