The Muslim Brotherhood described the first week of the new school year as chaotic, saying that the disarray reflects the lack of capacity to manage public affairs in Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif’s government and the widespread corruption in the country.
On its official website, the Brotherhood said that the National Democratic Party (NDP) does not have any plans for the reform of the education system, nor does it have any mechanisms in place for the implementation of improvements and is therefore unable to lead the country forward.
The Brotherhood called for education officials to be held accountable for such failures, saying they only care about their public appearance.
They added that standards are collapsing in both primary and university stages of education.
Mohamed Morsi, member of the Brotherhood’s Supreme Bureau, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the government is no longer capable of leading the country, adding that health services are poor and that recent accidents have led to the loss of thousands of lives.
Morsi also said that corruption has permeated society, citing the Madniaty contract which he said has squandered billions of funds for the state.
He added that the chaos of the new academic year proves that the education department is unable to cope, which is a dangerous indicator of the comptence of the government as a whole.
