Grand Mufti of Egypt and President of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide Nazir Ayyad affirmed that Egypt will always remain a model of coexistence among all its communities, emphasizing that dialogue between followers of different religions is the best way to promote peace and understanding.
During his meeting on Sunday 18/8/2024 with Father George Shihan, Archbishop of the Maronite Eparchy of Cairo for Egypt, Sudan, and North Africa, and the President of Maronite Institutions in Egypt, and his accompanying delegation, who came to congratulate him on assuming his duties as Grand Mufti, Ayyad said, “We are working diligently to strengthen the shared values that unite us all, as they are the best path to building a cohesive and tolerant society.”
For his part, Father George expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the Grand Mufti for the warm reception, affirming the deep historical ties between Egypt and Lebanon, as well as between Christians and Muslims in Egypt. He also congratulated the Grand Mufti on assuming his new position, looking forward to working with the Egyptian Dar al-Ifta to preserve Egypt’s social fabric and strengthen national unity.
