Former President Hosni Mubarak’s health deteriorated immediately after he heard that Mohamed Morsy became the president of Egypt, sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm.
His sons, Alaa and Gamal, who are in prison, were also appalled by the news, and so were fellow symbols of the former regime imprisoned with the Mubarak sons.
Mubarak, who was sentenced to life in prison for complicity in the killing of demonstrators, was forbidden from watching the press conference announcing the result of the runoff, but when he asked his doctors, his blood pressure went up and his heart beat became irregular.
Mubarak reportedly told his doctors that he is surprised the Islamists took the presidency, particularly the Brotherhood.
Morsy had said he would retry Mubarak, his two sons and the symbols of his regime. His sons are facing charges of manipulating the stock exchange, and are still being investigated on other corruption charges.
