Cairo Criminal Court on Monday adjourned the trials of ousted President Hosni Mubarak, his sons Gamal and Alaa, businessman Hussein Salem, former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly and six of his assistants.
The prosecution will begin to present its case Tuesday.
Mubarak arrived at court in an ambulance secured by an armored vehicle. The other suspects were transferred from Tora prison to court in three armored vehicles.
Mubarak is charged with involvement in the killings of protesters during the 25 January revolution. He and the other defendants are also charged with corruption.
Today’s session was intended to be procedural, according to Khaled Abu Bakr, a lawyer representing the families of the victims.
After reconvening last Wednesday morning following a three-month hiatus, Cairo Criminal Court adjourned the trial of Mubarak and other former officials until today.
The decision came after the prosecution was asked to submit a list of those killed or injured since the beginning of the January revolution, as well as reports and investigations regarding the incidents.
Meanwhile, dozens of martyrs’ families gathered outside the Police Academy. They held pictures of their deceased relatives and shouted angry slogans. There did not appear to be any Mubarak supporters at the scene.
State-run TV aired photos of Mubarak being carried into the courtroom on a stretcher, of Gamal Mubarak holding a Quran and of Adly un-handcuffed and seemingly free of security.
