Mubarak mocks opposition’s proposed shadow parliament

President Mubarak mocked the idea of a shadow parliament in his speech to parliament Sunday. Former MPs who lost in the parliamentary elections recently announced they would form such a body.

“Let them have fun,” Mubarak said.

The 118 former MPs last week declared their intention to form a shadow parliament to monitor the performance of the government. They also submitted lawsuits requesting the elections be nullified, claiming they were rigged.

For its part, the Muslim Brotherhood–the largest opposition group in Egypt–said it would report the elections rigging to international human rights organizations.
