Mubarak meets Emirati FM in Cairo

President Hosni Mubarak held talks on Tuesday with Emirati Foreign Minister Abdullah ben Zayed al-Nahyan, his second meeting with an Arab official since a wave of protests starting 25 January calling on Mubarak to leave office.

Egyptian diplomatic sources said the Emirati minister delivered Mubarak a letter from Emirati President Sheikh Khalifa ben Zayed al-Nahyan during their meeting at the presidential palace in Heliopolis.

Mubarak also met on Sunday with Omar al-Zawawi, advisor to Oman’s Sultan Qaboos.

Observers note that visits by Arab figures indicate support for Mubark to stay in office, despite protests which are widely believed to have shown that the regime has lost its legitimacy.
