President of Cairo University Gaber Nassar said the university had dismissed former Mubarak-era Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif, after he was convicted of illegal gains.
Nazif was sentenced to five 5 years in prison and a fine of LE53 million.
Nassar said in a press statement on Wednesday that Nazif, who worked as a professor at the Faculty of Engineering, was dismissed in accordance with Article 18 of the Civil Service Law, which stipulates for firing any public employee convicted in a criminal case.
In case Nazif is acquitted later of the charge of illegal gains, he would be reinstated, Nassar added.
