Intensive security preparations are underway in the Red Sea coastal town of Sharm el-Sheikh for the transfer of Hosni Mubarak to the Police Academy in New Cairo ahead of his trial on Wednesday. The former Egyptian president is expected to be transferred around dawn on Wednesday morning.
There is ongoing mystery and confusion surrounding the transfer process as security forces work to secure the former president's safety until the end of his trial.
However, one security source said, “Mubarak will be transferred by a helicopter, which will take off from the airstrip located behind the hospital, or by airplane outfitted as an ambulance.” The source ruled out Mubarak being transferred by military plane to the Almaza Airport, followed by his transfer to the Police Academy.
The source pointed out that hundreds of officers from the Central Security Forces in the Mount Sinai area would secure Mubarak’s transfer.
“Mubarak is quickly deteriorating psychologically and is getting worse with the approach of the trial,” a medical source from Sharm el-Sheikh International Hospital said. He said, however, that his physical health “is relatively stable and good for his age.”
