Minya MP Sherif Nady has submitted a request to the chief of the Transport Authority to allocate a minimum of one wagon per train for women, in order to protect them from harassment while using public transport.
Meanwhile, Beheira Governor Mohamed Sultan has already allocated two public transport buses to women only, the first of its kind in Egypt.
Samah Ammar from the Farmers’ Syndicate had come up with the idea to mimic Cairo's metro system, where certain cars are for women only. “We want to avoid the harassment of women in public transport,” she said.
