Moussa to visit Sudan to press transparency, says Arab League envoy

Arab League Envoy to Sudan Salah Halima on Monday said that an upcoming visit to Sudan by the league's secretary-general, Amr Moussa, aims to ensure the southern referendum takes places on its designated 9 January date.

Halima told Egypian radio that Moussa’s visit aims to press transparency assurances as well as offering support to northern and southern officials.

Moussa will depart for Sudan on Tuesday. He previously planned to visit Khartoum and Juba, the northern and southern capitals, during the second week of December, but the trip was delayed for procedural reasons.

An Arab League delegation will arrive in Sudan on 4 January to monitor the referendum process.
